This has been an excellent addition to my tool kit. It is never going to be at home in a scientific laboratory or a pathology lab but it is well and truly suitable for "average" usage needs. I have used it to inspect metal particles from inside a helicopter engine and to extreme close-up photograph the crown of a damaged rifle bore. It's very useful and does a great job.

I used it in Skype, Photobooth and in Plugable's free "Digital Viewer" software. Shutter button worked in Digital Viewer" but isn't very useful, as pressing it moved the scope around. Stick with using capture in the software. Don't be confused by the "40x< >800x" control. It's actually just focus. I am very happy with my purchase of the microscope, it works very well, the video quality is very good. Under windows 7 softwares working correctly, I think that even under Windows 8.1 will also work well. Overall, I am happy to 100%.

If it can be used as an endoscope I don't think I would find volunteers. I haven't used it but for the price, it would be hard to be disapointed.

When I consider the price paid for this microscope, I am seriously amazed. I've been purchasing inexpensive digital microscopes for years and they just keep getting better and coming down in price. This has the highest magnification yet. The base is solid and the microscope easily and solidly mounts to the base. There are several adjustments and they are adequately precise. The snapshot button works, but does move things around too much to be really useful. The software is pretty basic stuff. It installed just fine, displays the image, but so far, I cannot get it to magnify digitally. The previous models have made some kids very happy. So this big kid is very happy with it. This is really a future gift and it will make a great one.
