In a cord, the current flows out on one conductor and it flows back on the other conductor. In that case, the total current flowing on both wires is zero.... for example 2 Amps on one conductor and -2A on the other conductor. This is the way that all current measurements are made on all brands and kinds of devices, there is no way to measure the power any other way.
