Beginners beware - there are no instructions or documentation with this "kit", it is a PC board and a bag of parts. That's it. But, that's okay because when you install the parts per the component outline/value printed on the top of the PC board and add the solder - you'll end up with a 100% accurate implementation of the open source project described in all detail at this link: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/attachment/143813/TTester_096k.pdf Since the PC board in this kit implements the open source project schematic with 100% accuracy, the board also uses the open source AVR code. This allows you to extend the design, change its behavior or just use it as is, the choice is yours. This is unlike all the clones of this design that you see on ebay and other places. I have seen many clones that implement the basic design but cut corners using cheap parts, some even eliminate the precision 2.5 volt reference chip which significantly impacts the accuracy of all measurements. This version uses the ATMEGA328P-PU which has 32kb of flash even though they could have used the cheaper 16k version since that is all the design requires. This will allow for customization if you are so inclined! FWIW, this is the same 28 pin DIP package that the Arduino UNO uses. The only negatives I have about the unit are: 1) The press to test switch is lacking a large surface to press. A 2 cent snap on cap would have been nice. 2) The choice of LCD (white on blue) requires the use of the LED backlight which means significantly shorter battery life when using this in portable mode. A black on silver LCD with no backlight would have been a better choice, IMO. You can always change this out if you like since it is a standard 1602 device that can be had for $2-$3. The unit does provide the same 2.1/5.5 MM power jack as used on Arduino's if you want to power it with a 9vdc wallwart. 3) The placement of the 3 point terminal strip in front of the SMD pad areas is a real pain. They could have moved the battery terminal pads elsewhere so that you could use the very nice SMD pads to test any size SMD device. Having the terminal in front of the pads makes it almost impossible to test surface mount parts. 4) The ATMEGA328P processor: while it was in a good static shielding bag, there was no lead protection, it was just tossed in with the other parts which resulting in some very bent pins. This might result in broken pins if you are not careful when straightening them. Integrated circuits should always be shipped with some form of lead protection! In spite of the above criticisms, I like this kit enough to buy several more to build and give to friends. The parts and board are excellent quality, the parts kit was exact with no missing or wrong parts.

Electron55 gave a extensive review of this product. I will only add that it is strongly recommended to go trough the calibration process described in the manual in this link: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/attachment/164956/ttester_eng104k.pdf as the installed firmware is version 1.05. High quality PCB and components. I just addes a small LiPo battery which will give hours of operation without auto-discharge and a five pin connector to easily plug components. Congratulations to the developpers and thanks to Banggood!

Well, Electron55, Olivier and popy5 have already made good reviews, but I'll try to add my 2 cents... - Although it's described in the manuals posted by the 2 first reviewers, it's interesting to point the auto-calibration feature. You just have to start testing with the 3 test points shorted and it'll start the procedure. At some stage it'll require you to release the short and in another stage it'll ask you to insert a >100 nF non polarized capacitor. At the end of the process it informs the firmware version, 1.05 in my case as in Olivier's. - The 1st hand info for the meter is in German (Google transalate makes a fair work) here: Project: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/AVR_Transistortester Thread: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/topic/248078 Documentation: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/svnbrowser/transistortester/ - In the latter you can find the specific manual for V1.05 at: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/svnbrowser/transistortester/Doku/tags/old/english/ - Current firmware version seems to be 1.11, and includes new functions, for example frequency meter (with a small hardware mod). It should be possible to flash this one with the newer version, using a programmer like SKU128790. Although I have one of these programmers, I don't feel still confident to try it. I imagine I could buy an extra ATMEGA328P-PU to sacrifice it for Science... Maybe somebody can write another review explaining the flashing procedure for newbies! - Finally, as other have said, beginners should know that there's no manual, but lizzzz has posted a link to good one in the "customer discussions". I'll copy it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zpjwo3vfv9yfr5b/SKU136841 M8install.pdf In Spanish: Bueno, Electron55, Olivier y popy5 ya han hecho buenos comentarios, pero voy a tratar de hacer mi pequeña aprotación...

This DIY kit is a very good bargain. It works on the first connection. You can update the firmware to the latest version (1.11k) by the German author software named Karl-Heinz Kübbeler. This new version includes various new features such as frequency measurement, separate measurement of ESR C, frequency generator, control by rotary encoder, etc.. Can be found at the following website: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/AVR_Transistortester

As said elsewhere, the kit doesn't come with any documentation but it's really easy to build and the PCB is fully silk-screened with component values and orientations. It was assembled in under an hour and worked first time. It's great value for money and a handy little tool for quickly identifying pinouts when you don't have data sheets handy.
