gjgooren Ican't say if it's default position is open or closed. But i seems to me that it measures pressure in a tube or pipe. It's not closing or opening. It's just a reading. It toggles between 80 and 125 PSI. (default pressure for power steering systems). I ordered 1 to replace mine that was leaking.
