After having great performance from my Surpass 2838 motor I tried this heavier 3800KV 2845 motor to power my 3.8m F5J glider via a 5:1 reduction gearbox. The popular motors for this are in the £70 area. This motor is a little heavier for a similar output. As with all other F5J competition gliders, the motor is only run for 30secs but can be pushed very hard. Whilst setting this up for 4s operation, I recorded 830w on a trial run for a few seconds. Very impressive that it could even meet the specified 800w max at all, but too much for the motor to last (although they do unload in flight), so re-propped it to give around 680w static. Works very well so far, so good that I bought another for my next glider.

Q: Once bound to a model, does it have to be re-bound every time it is switched on?

Nice small unit. I use it to discharge 3s and 4s batteries. It starts off gently ramping up the discharge current to that selected. As it gets near to the target voltage (3.85v/cell on mine), the current is reduced slowly. Works well, the little fan runs all the time and is not quiet, on reaching the discharged voltage an alarm beep is given. It remembers the last setting (number of cells and current) and starts the cycle when any of the buttons is pressed. It has no cell balance input port, so clearly can't discharge whilst balanced, so some care might be needed to ensure that the batteries discharged are in reasonable condition.

Nice looking chuck that fits in my Dremel. This example does not center the drill bit well enough. With a range of drill bits from .7 to 3mm, most attempts resulted in the bit running so far off centre that it couldn't be used with any accuracy. By retrying several times, I could get the drill to run fairly central, but it is too much messing. The original collet runs perfectly. This example is of very little use.

Tried this module in my Q7X on OpenTx 2.2.1 running AFHDS 2A receivers. It bound and worked very well, but the telemetry has a problem where the values cannot be used to trigger alarms, although the appeared automatically on the screen. Tried 2.2.2, this saw no values at all. It was suggested on the forum for OpenTx that the firmware for the module might need updating to correct this. Aside from telemetry, they worked very well. Tried it in my 9XRPRO with Ersk9x 221. It runs my DSMX, AFHDS, AFHDS A2 and FLYSKY D8 receivers perfectly. Ran my AFHDS A2 receivers out to 500m high and 600m out (limit of my vision on my 2.5M plane) without any issue. Telemetry working very well.. Great product!!!

Q: What ground to air range can be expected on a FLYSKY receiver. Is it similar to the FLYSKY FR-I6Tx?

The foam parts are not a perfect fit to each other, expect to use some kind of glue that will fill the gap. I tried Gorilla Glue, but that pushed the panels further apart. Goes together quickly and can be quite light. I added an extra 12mm balsa strip to the trailing edge of the elevons and shaped them to a sharp edge, then covered in film. This added greatly to their rigidity, the standard elevons are too flexy and their hinges stiff. I cut them out and hinged with tape. Mine has a 2208 1400Kv motor with 7x4 prop, this needs a 2200 3s battery to balance at around 300mm from the nose tip. Can be fast but will flutter the wings if not built with extra reinforcement. Agile but smooth and quite stable when flown gently. Very happy with it... I ordered a second one to try as a slope soarer.

Nice quality plastic props. Many props sold don't include measurements for their fittings. These have a 6mm root with a 2mm hole (the hole could be enlarged). This prop is suitable for lower revving motors, maybe not for high performance motors.
