Q: how do i flash the device and is there any documentaion?

BG167141147 There is a lot of information on the Internet. Search for "ESP8266" and "Wemos D1 mini". If you have a binary file to flash, use the ESP Flasher Tool. If you want to write your own firmware, I can recommend using the Arduino IDE to do that. There are other options like Platformio etc. as well, but require more work to get used to. No special hardware is needed, just a USB cable.
