does not detect line voltage placing it along a wire. AC, DC, Continuity, and ohms not working at all. NOTE: In order to put batteries in, turn meter to side OPPOSITE RED probe. This is where you insert the BLACK wire. Put a small PHILLIPS head screwdriver INTO the BLACK PROBE SOCKET and UNSCREW HIDDEN SCREW! Slip battery cover off and insert batteries observing polarity. Test the meter turns on. Now, replace battery cover. YOU ***MUST*** replace the screw or the unit WILL NOT recognize the negative probe. The probe contacts the SCREW WHICH screws THROUGH THE PLASTIC CASE INTO THE metal tab at the end of the meter. I found the display to lack sufficient contrast to see in indoor lighting. The backlight only helped minimally... Buy a different meter!
