Its very difficult to get "traditional" solder for repairing vintage radios and TVs these days, and on some finely-conductored circuit boards the modern high temperature solder based on tin alone needs a hotter soldering iron so components can easily be damaged. This traditional solder melts at a lower temperature, meaning vintage equipment such as valve radios and televisions can be repaired authentically. I used the 2.0mm for car electrics where heavier cables and connectors are used, the 1.2 mm for vintage appliance repairs and the finer 0.8mm and 0.5mm for older circuit boards where conductors are thin and components won't tolerate the higher temperatures of modern tin-only solder.
