I'm using the Arduino IDE to program this board. I'm fairly familiar with Arduino clones, so I figured I would try this one out as my first endeavor into the ESP8266 world. Please don't let me dissuade you from trying out this board, but be aware that if you plan on using the Arduino IDE, this board is a bit too new for easy integration. The D1 and the non-Pro D1 mini are a bit easier. The ESP8266 project has not folded in the changes to support this board yet, but I found a fork of the project that does. You may want to start here, rather than the outdated info on Wemos' site: https://github.com/WereCatf/Arduino/tree/WemosD1MiniPro I ordered two boards. My first board came with all the pins and headers that it was supposed to, but I didn't notice until now that the second one (still unopened) did not come with any pins. Both came in antistatic bags. Other than the missing pins, and getting the board set up in the IDE, all of the problems I have encountered were due to the steep learning curve. I think someone experienced with other ESP8266 modules would have very little problem transitioning to the D1 Mini Pro. I plan to use mine to run from a solar panel/battery combination to monitor the weather and weight of some beehives I will be installing.
