Both IR and RF work great when using it as a simple remote by pressing the buttons in the app but only predefined TV remotes can be used with Google Assistant, tap-to-run and automations in the Smart Life app. This is a huge limitation since remotes you configure yourself can't be used in automations and RF can only be configured via a custom remote. There are no predefined settings for RF devices. There is also no user's manual included so it can be a little tricky to set things up at first.

Biazzotto With Alexa you can create routines to voice control custom devices, I don't know if Google Assistant have that kind of functionality...
